You can only deduct donations the organization plans to sell or to use for its charity.

Donating to Charity

Income shall not be treated as properly allocable to qualified intellectual property for purposes of this subsection if such income is received by or accrued to the donee after the 10-year period beginning on the date of the contribution of such property. No deduction shall be allowed under subsection for any amount paid by a taxpayer to maintain an individual as a member of his household under a program described in paragraph except as provided in this subsection.

Someone who is a party to the transaction in which you acquired the property being appraised can’t do the appraisal, unless you donate the property within two months of acquiring it, and its appraised value does not exceed the acquisition price. To figure out the value of your gifts, add all the value of all similar items. For example, if you give away a hundred valuable old books, add their value together even though you might think you’re really making a lot of small gifts. The receipt should also state whether or not the charity gave you any goods or services in exchange for your gift; if so, the receipt must describe them and give an estimate of their value. Gifts given directly to individuals, even if done as acts of charity, do not qualify as tax-deductible charitable donations. For the tax year 2022 , the standard deduction goes up slightly. Additionally, if you receive a benefit for a contribution you make, you will need to deduct the value of the benefit you receive from the deductible amount. For example, if you buy a ticket to afundraiserbeing held by a qualified organization, and the ticket includes the price of a meal, you will need to deduct the value of that meal to come up with the amount of the contribution that’s deductible.

Are clothing donations tax-deductible in 2022?
